Being in the military can earn you a lot of perks, but few are aware that some cruise lines are offering free cruises for military personnel. Discovery Cruise Line is an example. Since 2003 Discovery Cruise Line has given hundreds of free cruises for military personnel. The only requirement is that the person must have served in Iraq or Afghanistan during the year in which the free cruise is being offered.

As far as specifics, the free cruise travels from Fort Lauderdale to the Grand Bahama Island. All expenses are paid including meals, taxes and any applicable service charges. The only downside is that the free cruise doesn’t cover the cost of staterooms or excursions; the military person would be responsible for these fees. But these things are optional, and are not required to make the cruise enjoyable.

To register for the free cruise, (which is available until 2010), a person must visit Discovery Cruise Line’s website and register through their online form. The military person will then get a receipt from the company. When the person goes to the pier they must present the receipt, their military I.D. and a letter confirming their service. After all of that is checked, they will be allowed a free cruise. And considering what they have sacrificed to help ensure this country’s freedom, they deserve it!
