There are a lot of different factors that need to be kept in mind which choosing which cruise ship or cruise line to vacation on, especially if you are a first time cruise ship vacationer. Before you make any specific selections, you need to keep some important things in mind: How much time do you have available? What general area or region will you be in? What is your budget? You also need to make sure that you have your passport ready. The most time consuming part of all may be preparing your passport, since security requirements have changed dramatically in response to 9/11. So if you have not tried to get a passport since 9/11 occurred, you may want to begin the process now so that there are no hold-ups later.

The next thing that you need to keep in mind is that there are a lot of different cruise ‘styles’ that have to be chosen between. There are choices that cater to pretty much every different type of person, including but not limited to all of the following.

- Senior Cruises – Where everyone is a senior citizen, which means activities cater to the specific age group.

- Family Cruises – Where the entire family is invited, so there are activities for all age groups, even children!

- GLBT Cruises – Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual and Transgender cruises, where everyone is welcome and no one has to worry about being judged.

- Singles Cruises – Where the purpose of the cruise is to meet up with other like-minded singles.

- Romantic Cruises – Perfect for newlyweds, young couples, and anniversaries. These cruises have a special romantic feel to them.

- Holiday Cruises – Perfect for getting out of the gloomy cold, or escaping the unbearable heat. These cruises are perfect for family vacations.

- Luxury Cruises – These cruise ships generally have pools, spas, gyms, and other luxury accommodations for the privileged few that have enough money to blow.

There are many different types of cruises, which means that it will not be hard for you to find one which best suits your needs. The activities and accommodations vary greatly from cruise ship to cruise ship, so make sure that you are opting for the right cruise option based on what you want to get out of it. Some cruises stop at dozens of ports of call, while others spend more time at sea. Some cruises have tons of activities on board, while others expect you to spend most of your time on land. Make sure that you know what you are getting yourself into before you sign on the dotted line, and you will be sure to thoroughly enjoy your cruise inside and out.
