For hard-working individuals, a week off from their busy work is a “dream come true”. The typical weekend off for most working individuals is not enough to enjoy what they have worked hard for in the previous week. In addition, the time is not sufficient to get themselves involved in activities that they want to do even once in a year. And when the time comes where they will be granted a week’s vacation, they do not hesitate to grab it and enjoy planning and spending it with their respective families.

There are many activities that they can get into while enjoying their moment with their families. They can cruise and spend the rest of the week in the clear waters of the Caribbean or go backpacking abroad and explore the wonders of various places of interest around the world. Though it may be a little bit costly on your part, the happiness that you will feel is invaluable.

If you are still thinking of an exciting way to spend your vacation, why don’t you try to go sailing? As the lyrics of the song “Sailing” by Christopher Cross say, “Fantasy, it gets the best of me, when I’m sailing”.

Sailing is the skillful art of maneuvering the movement of a sailboat across a particular body of water. It is quite different compared to large water vessels since you will deal with the varying water and wind condition to propel your sailboat. Thus, it adds to the excitement that you will feel once you decide to go sailing.

Of course, your sailing vacation will not be complete if you will not have your sailing yacht to ride on. Before, during the time of Charles II, yachts are used to convey important individuals such as the members of the Royal Family or of the English Parliament. It evolved throughout time and now, yachts are used on various sailing activities, whether for the purpose of pleasure travel or racing.

Sailing yachts may differ in its overall length, or called in yachting parlance as Length Over All (LOA), which may range from about 6 meters (20 feet) to over 30 meters (98 feet). Most privately-owned sailing yachts falls in sizes ranging from 7 to 14 meters (23 to 46 feet). The cost of building and maintaining a sailing yacht increases as its length increases.

There are sailing enthusiasts who prefer the monohull or single-hulled sailing yachts. Such yachts are commonly fitted with either adjustable or fixed keel below the waterline, which will counteract the overturning force of wind on the boat’s sails. On the other hand, most of them prefer the multi-hull sailing yachts (such as catamarans and trimarans) that have two or more hulls that are widely separated from one another to provide a stable base that will counteract overturning. These yachts runs at water on higher nautical speed because of weight reduction compared to monohull yachts.

Until the 1950s, most sailing yachts are made out of wooden boards or steel in larger ones. Today, sailing yachts can now be built out of different materials. The most common is the fiberglass because of its flexible features. There are also sailing yachts that are made out of aluminum, though it is seldom used due to insurance difficulties. On the other hand, high performance sailing yachts that are used in international yacht racing events such as the America’s Cup and Volvo Ocean Race make use of carbon fiber as its main material.

Sailing will be more fun if you will select the best sailing yacht that you can use. Be selective and enjoy sailing your yachts away to the blue and clear waters!
